THE COLONEL'S CUT

SYSTEMATIC LAND GRAB IN THE SOUTH

September 12, 2019

When The Great Land Robbery, an article by Vann R. Newkirk II appeared  in the Atlantic Monthly, Jay C. Key had been working on our series THE COLONEL'S CUT for a decade. In the article Newkirk chronicles, "how the crimes of Jim Crow have been laundered by time and how the legacy of ill-gotten gains has become a structural part of American life."

In Shop Talk #2 we discuss with Hunter Key, a land assessor in the South and part of our research team, how this story relates to our Southern Crime drama THE COLONEL'S CUT.

LOVE CHILD AND MARILLA TV SET SAIL ON ELIZA FRASER

May 14, 2019

When in November 2003 a location recce in Queensland got bogged down in a tidal creek on Fraser Island, sinking a brand-new 4WD jeep and stranding the crew for 24 hours, producer-director Tobias Meinecke, who was there prepping his epic motion picture ELIZA FRASER with partners from Brisbane, Sydney and London, imagined the shoot of his dream project to be just a few short months away. A mishap like that would surely not change a thing. But in February 2004 something else changed, namely the film finance laws in the UK, putting the picture into a much deeper bog. A major financier was forced to drop out and the project came to a standstill.

Until now.

In partnership with UK producer and casting-director Kristina Erdeley and her new production outfit MARILLA TV, LOVE CHILD is turning the epic motion picture script about a highborn Englishwoman shipwrecked on what is known today as Fraser Island into a six part mini-series. Tobias, now co-founder and creator at LOVE CHILD STORYTELLERS, will again team up with original co-writer Eric Darton to expand the storyline and to weave-in hereto untapped backstories. LOVE CHILD co-founder Jay C. Key is on board as as EP (NW) and Aborigine Creatives will join the creative team. Kristina will produce for MARILLA and Tobias for LOVE CHILD.
